10 Things to know about your photos

Most people can agree that the reason couples spend so much time, money and energy planning their weddings is so that they can remember the best day of their lives. Every moment, from start to finish, should be special and captured in a way that can last forever. So, whose job is it to make sure that these memories are preserved? The photographer, of course! Choosing the right photographer for your special day is a huge decision and should not be taken lightly. Here are 10 tips you can use when hiring the one person who will ultimately serve you with the memories you will want for the rest of your life.

2. It’s always best to get referrals from people who have been in your position. Ask recently married friends or wedding planners who know the industry. People who have had experience with photographers will always be the best source since they have since the outcome of the work.

3. Both small and large photography studios have their advantages. Larger studios have more employees which can be more helpful during the popular months but smaller studios will ensure closer client contact and personalized service.

4. You should be able to develop some sort of a relationship with your photographer. This does not mean that you will be friends for life but there should be a degree of chemistry there just to make sure that both ends understand what is important.

5. There is always room for negotiation when it comes to prices, especially in this economy. Ask nicely if there are ways to cut costs 10-15% and if there are ways to downsize standard packages.

6. Digital photos are the newest and, most photographers agree, the best way to capture images. Digital cameras allow them to snap photos faster and image quality is now just as clear as regular film. You can easily preview shots this way and convert photos to black-and-white.

9. Always discuss your photographer’s dress code. Remember that they must be comfortable because they will be running around all day but that orange sneakers are not acceptable. Opt for black sneakers instead.

10. Make sure to include all aspects of agreed upon items in your contract. This includes pricing, names of your photographers and back ups, hours of coverage, number of prints and album details.
