Formal Wedding Gown

Guidelines For Wedding Formality

By Guy Antonelli

One of the first decisions that you will need to make about your wedding is how formal you would like it to be. This one choice will help to determine everything from the venue, to the time of day, to your gown, and even the menu. But if you are like most newly engaged couples, you have never planned a grand event before, and may have no idea how to figure out how formal your wedding should be. Here are some guidelines to the different degrees of formality, as well as what each one will involve.formal wedding gown

Many couples like the general idea of a formal wedding, but are not exactly sure what that means specifically. They figure that this one of the most special days of their lives, and therefore a bit of pomp and circumstance is in order. A formal wedding is the one that will adhere the most closely to custom and tradition. You can still be creative, but there are some basic concepts that you will want to stick with to create a beautiful formal wedding.

There are actually degrees of formality. The most formal is a white tie wedding, which is rarely seen. This type of wedding follows very strict rules of etiquette, one of which is that it should only be held in the winter months. White tie weddings are only to take place after 6pm, and the guests are supposed to wear full length gowns, with their most ornate jewelry and long gloves. If you and your families want to have a very grand wedding, white tie is an exquisite option.

Most formal weddings will be black tie. A black tie wedding is also supposed to start at 6pm or later, but most people feel like it is fine for a late afternoon ceremony followed by an evening reception. If you opt for a black tie wedding, the men will wear black tie, obviously. The bride should wear a formal wedding gown with very special custom bridal jewelry. A veil is usually worn, and sometimes gloves, although they are not required as with white tie.

For a formal wedding, you want everything to tie together with the same degree of formality. In other words, a bouquet of roses or lilies would be beautiful, but a bouquet of gerbera daisies would seem too casual. Beautifully custom made crystal or pearl bridal jewelry is perfect for a formal wedding, but a plain silver chain would be not quite enough. You get the idea.

The menu for a formal wedding should feature elegant foods that are graciously presented. If you are having a causal buffet in the church basement after your ceremony, you can get away with using foil dishes at the buffet. For a formal dinner in a hotel ballroom or country club, a detail like that would detract from the effect you are trying to achieve. It is also traditional to have a more subdued invitation for a formal ceremony, such as black engraving on heavy white or ivory paper. These days, though, you can get away with adding an accent like a bow or a touch of color to your invitations while still conveying a formal tone.

Semi-formal weddings are very, very popular with couples these days. They can take place at any time of the day, and in any season. Many semi-formal weddings are held in lovely outdoor venues. This type of wedding will allow you more freedom and creativity in terms of your colors, attire, and décor. Semi-formal weddings will usually feature the bride in a beautiful wedding gown, but it will typically have less embellishment and a shorter train than a more formal wedding. Feel free to experiment with a wider and more eclectic assortment of flowers.

The formality of your wedding will set the tone for the entire affair. You want to choose the one that will feel both most comfortable to you and the most special. Because tradition is such an important part of a wedding, when in doubt, it is always safe to go with the more formal customs.formal wedding gown

White Wedding Dress

Choosing a White Vs An Ivory Wedding Dress

By Christianne Brunelle

White Wedding DressWhite wedding dresses are rife with symbolism: purity, virginity, what have you. Clearly today these symbols are less relevant in our society. Nevertheless, the white dress persists! Why? Is it that brides tend to glow in white? Is it that guests assume the bride will wear white therefore no other woman will wear it, rendering the bride a visible beacon amongst her guests? Maybe it's because many weddings tend to be in the summer and white looks so nice outdoors in the sunlight.

Whatever the reason, the vast majority of wedding dresses are still in shades of white and ivory. Some more intrepid brides have chosen other colors, such as a gold wedding dress or even pink!

Is White Your Color?

Despite white being the default choice in many brides' minds, not everyone can pull it off. White compliments very dark skin tones and the lightest skin tones best. Olive-skinned women should steer towards a richer color. If you have a tendency to tan in golden tones white will also look great on you. Brides with yellow undertones to their skin will look better in a diamond white rather than a gleaming white.

Considering Ivory

How do you know an ivory wedding dress is the right color for you? Can it be more than a "middle of the road" between pure white and champagne tones? Absolutely. To answer the first question, think of how pearls look against your skin. Have you always liked the effect? Don't think of the style of pearls, which might be too conservative for you: rather, think of the tone itself. Chances are you'll be saying a resounding "yes" if you have olive or creamy skin. Also in the resounding "yes" category: dark-skinned women, especially those with rich brown tones. In this case you may want to consider a rich ivory color, or a gold wedding dress. Creamy skin also looks nice in ivory, especially a paler shade of ivory.

If you have very fair skin you'll probably want to avoid ivory in favor of white. This way your dress will be lighter than your skin tone, which is the goal.

There are many shades of ivory with varying levels of color, and varying levels of yellow. If you're shopping for a dress in person, the best way to judge the color is against your skin, and preferably in daylight. If this is not possible in the store, ask for a fabric sample that you can take home. Shopping online? Take the time to request a fabric sample. It's well worth the minor cost if you're serious about the wedding dress in question. Not only for the color, but to judge the texture, shine and overall fabric quality.

Whatever your choice, make sure you don't compromise your fabric for the color you want. The fabric of your dress is incredibly important and needs to "stand on it's own". Don't be afraid to ask for a fabric sample to be really sure. This goes for a white dress too. Happy shopping!White Wedding Dress

By Simeon Stevek

Wedding Gown DressThe choice of a wedding gown is something most brides will find very challenging especially at this time when everyone wants to put on something trendy. Wedding gown dresses come in many styles for all types of wedding themes but the important thing is to have a dress that fits you well and suits your style, body and type of skin. Choosing wedding gown dresses will depend on many things which include budget, type of wedding, weather and location. You can choose your wedding dress depending on the location of your wedding, for instance, if you are having a beach wedding, you may go casual but have the dress looking elegant as well.

Go for a wedding gown that is easy to manage and won't give you trouble walking especially when you are on the beach and have to walk on the sand. The color of the wedding dress is important too and although most people will go for ivory white, you can add some colors to your dress.

Wedding gown dresses always come with many designs for the neckline but whatever the design you choose, have the right jewelry to boost. You also have to be careful with the kind of material your wedding gown is made of and although the highest quality materials can be more expensive, you can still get a good affordable material.

The wedding dress you select has to make you look beautiful on your wedding day. You can try on as many dresses as you can until you find an appropriate one at the same time matching it with the shoes, veil and other accessories you want to wear. Wedding Gowns

The bride wears an exquisite gown on the day of her wedding, for the ceremony. The fall, color and the style of the gown highlight the cultural and religious background. The color code for most of the western wedding dresses is white. The main color is generally white, but designers do experiment with hues of cream, ivory, ecru and other pastel colors. The marriage of Queen Victoria that took place in 1840 set the trend of wearing a white gown. The color has become popular since then and most of the wedding gowns worn are white. Black is considered the color of mourning and is avoided. In the period before the marriage of Queen Victoria, brides wore gowns in shades of blue and brown. It is believed that the color white symbolizes virginity.

While choosing a wedding gown, it is very important that the bride is not hasty, and chooses the dress she is most comfortable in. This is a special occasion and the bride desires to look her best. This makes her opt for designers who can tailor the wedding gown. Those brides who do not have any financial constrains can choose to get their wedding gowns designed by professional designers.

Plus Size Wedding Gowns

Wedding gowns are readily available in various sizes, at bridal stores all over the world. Sometimes it is difficult to find gowns for brides who are overweight. Hence, at many of the local bridal boutiques there are plus- size wedding gowns available. These wedding gowns are designed up to a size 14 or even a size 16. Before going to any of these bridal boutiques to check the sizes, a prior appointment should be taken, so that there is no last minute rush for a trial. If the bride is full bodied and does not find the appropriate wedding gown, she does have options.

Many bridal boutiques that specialize in plus- size wedding garments, sell gowns that caters to such brides. Though the choice is limited, it is still worth having a look. Brides may not find the variety that the regular stores offer, but the right wedding gown can be identified if they browse through the special outlets.

The Internet is an excellent source for all the information on plus- size wedding dresses. The bride to be can go through the available sites and try to locate stores and designers that offer plus- sized wedding gowns. It is possible to order a plus size wedding gown online. The only problem is that while ordering online, the brides cannot try on the gown and hence, do not know whether it will fit them or not. Plus- sized wedding dresses are not tailor-made and this is the main reason why full- bodied brides think twice before purchasing a wedding gown.
